Introduction & People
The Georgetown Environmental Law & Policy Institute brings top-flight academic analysis to bear on important legal and policy issues relating to protection of the environment and conservation of natural resources by convening academics and practitioners to discuss and debate major legal and policy issues, holding conferences and seminars on select topics, publishing studies and reports, and filing legal briefs on behalf of public interest clients in select, potentially precedent-setting cases.
Board of Advisors
Members of the Georgetown University Law Center environmental faculty govern the Institute as its Board of Advisers.
- Professor Peter Byrne is the Faculty Director of the Institute. Professor Byrne teaches property, land use regulation and historic preservation law.
- Professor Hope Babcock directs the Law Center's Environmental Justice Clinic and teaches environmental law.
- Professor Lisa Heinzerling teaches environmental and natural resources law.
- Professor Richard Lazarus teaches environmental, advanced environmental, and natural resources law and directs the Law Center's Supreme Court Institute.
- Professor Edith Brown Weiss is the Francis Cabell Brown Professor of International Law and teaches international environmental and water law.
